What is Financial Aid?
To qualify for financial aid you must prove that you need assistance. Need is the difference between the amount you and your family can contribute and the cost to attend the college of your choice. The primary responsibility for your educational expenses belongs to you and your family.
How do I apply?
There are three steps to applying for financial aid at SCHI.
-
Step 1: You must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). This form allows you to apply for all types of aid. There are not separate applications for each type of aid. The FAFSA application form is available online but a hard copy is available upon request. The financial aid process is a lengthy one. The best advice is to get this form in as early as possible, as any delays may affect the timeliness of your award.
-
Step 2: You must complete loan counseling and complete the loan application process by visiting www.opennet.salliemae.com. For specific instructions click here.
Will I have out-of-pocket expenses?
When will I receive my financial aid loan?
This step is for:
- FOR DEPENDENT STUDENTS: Students should apply for the Federal Stafford Loan and Parents should apply for the Federal Plus Loan.
- NOTE: Dependent students will be considered for a subsidized loan only with a max. amount of $1,944.00. Parents may apply for the Plus Loan for the entire remaining amount of the tuition. If the Plus Loan is denied, the student will then be eligible for an unsubsidized loan with a max. amount of $2,222.00.
*The school will be notified of your status however each student is advised to contact the financial aid office once this step has been completed.
